U.S. Life Insurance Activity Slips Back into Positive Territory Reports the MIB Life Index
Today the MIB reported that U.S. life insurance application activity eased into positive territory in January, with the composite MIB Life index up 2.1%, year-over-year. This is the first sign of growth for the composite Index since July 2018, and comes on the heels of a -3.5% decline in life applications in Q4 2018.
Drivers of growth in the composite was strength among older and middle age life insurance applicants. In the age demographics, the under age 45 application activity remained negative and activity for ages 60+ continued to soar.
The January 2019 application activity among the age groups tracked by the MIB was:
Ages 0-44: -4.4%
Ages 45-59: +4.6%
Ages 60 and above: +18.2%
