U.S. Life Insurance Activity Stays Positive Reports the MIB Life Index

The MIB reports that U.S. life insurance application activity remained just barely positive, up +0.4% Year-over-Year (YOY) for February.

This is the second consecutive month of YOY growth for the composite Index since July 2018. Once again, the shift has been away from younger age buyers, with the primary drivers of the composite coming from older and middle age life insurance applicants.

In February, application activity for:

  1. Ages 0-44 fell -4.4%

  2. Ages 45-59 grew +1.9%

  3. Ages 60+ grew +12.5%

For the year, overall application activity is up 1.3% and the results by age group show:

  1. Ages 0-44 fell -4.4%

  2. Ages 45-59 grew +3.3%

  3. Ages 60+ grew +15.4%.
