1.1% Drop in 2018 US Life Insurance Applications, According to MIB
The MIB reports 2018 U.S. life insurance application activity fell 1.1%, primarily due to a sharp 3.5% decrease in 4Q 2018 applications. In 2017, the MIB index was down 1.8%.
The 2018 application activity among the age groups tracked by the MIB was:
Ages 0-44: -2.7%
Ages 45-59: -0.7%
Ages 60 and above: +3.3%
Younger insureds, in the age 0-44 group, remain reluctant purchasers of life insurance while older insureds, in the age 60 and above group, are in the market for life insurance. Despite lower sales to the Age 0-44 group, the industry remains committed to finding new ways to attract younger buyers.
